Sri Hanuman Jayanti was observed on Saturday, 31 March at all Divine Life Society Ashrams. Sri Hanuman was the embodiment of humility and pure devotion. He was recognised as a great Karma Yogi and the ideal Brahmachari. It was the power of Brahmacharya that gave him enormous strength and courage. Within a second, he could become as big as a mountain or as small as a thumb-nail. In spite of all the super human deeds that Sri Hanuman performed, he remained humble and always replied that everything was accomplished "By the Grace of Lord Rama". During the course of the day, 108 recitals of the Sri Hanuman Chalisa was done at Sivanandashram, Reservoir Hills and Chatsworth. Various branches participated in the chanting in Reservoir Hills. Pujya Swami Sahajananda wrote the following in the Divine Life Society Prayer Book, “The Sri Hanuman Chalisa is very powerful and very effective for the removal of all mental problems. It brings good health, success and prosperity. It cures diseases, counteracts evil forces and the effect of ‘black magic’, which are so prevalent today”.

At Sivanandashram, Reservoir Hills, we read an article from the Shree Ramacharitamanasa where Sri Hanuman meets Lord Rama for the first time. We reproduce an excerpt from this inspiring chapter: "We are sons of King Dasaratha, the lord of Kosala, and have come to the forest in obedience to our father's command. We two brothers, are called by the names of Rama and Lakshmana. We had with us a pretty and delicate girl, the daughter of King Videha, who has been carried away by some demon here. It is in quest of her, that we are moving about, O holy Brahmana. We have furnished you with our account in some detail; now tell us your story in a comprehensive manner, O good Brahmana."

Now Sri Hanuman recognized his Lord and prostrating, clasped His Feet. That joy, was more than could be described. A thrill ran through his body and no words came to his lips as he gazed on the lovely style of their dress. The joy that Sri Hanuman experienced was more than could be described in words. This first meeting was electric. Then recovering, he sang His praises and was glad at heart to have found his Master. "It was quite in the fitness of things that I questioned my Lord; but how is it that You ask me like a mortal? I have been roving in error under the spell of Your Maya; it was for this reason that l failed to recognize my Lord." Then Sri Hanuman related all the circumstances of both the sides, and having installed a sacred fire as a witness, he forged a firm alliance between Lord Rama and Sugriva.

The video screening depicted Sri Hanuman swallowing the sun. Thereafter he received various gifts from Deities. In the Sri Hanuman Chalisa we find the following transliteration: "You playfully thought that the mighty sun was a great big fruit and swallowed it up.

May the blessings of Sri Hanuman be upon all!
