The Cape Town Branch of Divine Life Society of SA held a successful and well attended Hindu Dharma Campaign on Sunday, 13 March 2016, at the Shree Vishnu Mandir in Gatesville. Images from the event can be viewed in the Gallery section, located below this report.
The programme included, Messages from our Divine Master, Sri Swami Sivananda, and Pujya Swami Sahajananda, Bhajans and Kirtans, guided meditation sessions, discourses on various Hindu topics, dance renditions by the Taare Dance Academy, and a PowerPoint presentation by the youth girls of the Cape Town Branch, based on Hindu symbols. The campaign brought together various Hindu organisations from the greater Western Cape region. The guest of honour, Sri Puneet R. Kundal, Consulate General of India in Cape Town, commended Divine Life Society, Cape Town Branch for undertaking such an initiative, the first he has seen in the Western Cape. Sri Kundal encouraged the Branch to hold such a programme on an annual basis, as it fosters Hindu unity, and the promotion of Indian culture.
In her address, the chairperson of the Hindu Association of the Western Cape, also congratulated the Branch on organising the campaign, and echoed the sentiments of Sri Kundal to organise such a campaign annually. Melodious Bhajans and Kirtans were rendered by various Hindu Organisations of the Western Cape, including the Dharmic Samelan, Saiva Sithantha Sungam, Cape Town Seva Samaj, Jyoti Satsang, Parklands Hindu Association, and the Sri Siva Alayam. Two guided meditation sessions were conducted by the local chapters of the Art of Living Organisation, and the Brahmakumaris World Spiritual University. A representative of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha delivered a message on the great achievements by Indians and Hindus, and why we should be proud to call ourselves Hindus.
The programme concluded with Arati and Shanti Paat. Lunch Prasad was served thereafter. Bookstalls by various organisations were also set up for attendees to browse through and purchase various items. In keeping with the teachings of our Divine Master to serve those less fortunate, the branch also undertook poor feeding on this day at a local shelter in the Cape Town CBD.
The Cape Town Branch of Divine Life Society of SA, is a dynamic branch. Apart from the weekly Sunday Satsangs, the fairly young group of devotees are actively involved in spreading the Gospel of our Divine Master, Sri Swami Sivananda, and beloved Pujya Swami Sahajananda, in the Western Cape Province. Sandwich making is conducted by the branch, which feeds school going children on a daily basis. The branch is also actively involved in desk refurbishment, assisting nearby schools by providing this much needed service.
Our next Hindu Dharma Campaign will be held on Sunday, 14 August 2016, and will be hosted by the Estcourt Branch of Divine Life Society of SA.
